We no longer listen. We speak one over the other,  at the same time. We draw conclusions based on rumours,  hearsay,  gut feeling,  not reasoning and facts. We raise the voice instead of the reasoning to gain the illusion of achievement.  We demand,  don’t cooperate.  We set personal agendas instead of aiming for resolution of common issues. We bend our moral fabric like it’s made of Kevlar and expected it somehow to retain its initial shape and integrity through all the impacts we assault it with. We never talk about the big pink elephants floating in the meeting rooms or at our social gatherings. We forego friendships and partnerships like they are replaceable things.  We declare ourselves victorious in meetings winning pointless arguments.  And yet, we seek happiness.  How do I explain this to my son?

The real hard going part of anything is execution. It’s not the idea person… It’s not the doer… Is someone in-between,  someone that gets both and makes the necessary adjustments in-flight so both can coexist and work unhindered. It’s not a science to learn,  it’s an innate ability

Windows disk or partition shrinking issue

I’ve finally managed to make time and upgrade my Windows 8 hdd to an SSD.

However, it wasn’t without its challenges.

“Not enough space” was a constant annoyance when trying to shrink the volume.

The solution had three parts, as I’ve found out …

1. Disable all “unmovable” files: hibernation, memory paging, etc …

2. You can defrag as much as you want with Windows built-in – it will not move files to the beginning of the drive to make contiguous free space. Use a third party windows defrag. I used ausdiskdefragportable.

3. The gotcha: – after you’ve done 1&2, DON’T try to shrink using the built-in disk manager by more than 50%! Go for 40% shrinkage, in multiple passes. The reason is that the file system stores a copy of the MFT at the middle of the drive… hence 50% part …

Once all completed, use your preferred disk partitioning tool… I used   EaseUS Todo Backup Free 8.0  to copy the partitions from my 250 Gb SATA to my 120 GB SSD (hooked up to a USB cradle).

Happy hacking.

WordPress XML RPC API seems out of date

I was trying to work out the call format for posting to WordPress 4.x using the built-in XML API (from an Android app I’m working on ) and kept getting constantly an error. Yes, compiling, running and posting from the Android open source WordPress app was working just fine.

So me being the engineer I am I’ve fired up Wireshark on my server and captured both requests… turns out that the calls made by the native app are using a slighlty DIFFERENT API… go figure. Yet, not quite so obvious when you search for it…

The meaning of life is simple.
Grow. Learn. Challenge and be challenged. Accumulate experience, knowledge, wisdom. Then, your sole purpose, and the life’s meaning is to make sure you pass it on to your children, and the future generations. Hurt, disappointment, joy, sorrow, love, respect, reflection… your purpose is to learn it, experience it, feel it, distil it, and make it clearer and easier for your legacy. That’s it. Nothing more, nothing less.
