Google has been a leader in the nascent field of self-driving cars. The technology for those cars will not only push the limits of artificial intelligence and machine vision software, they will also push semiconductor chip technology and hardware systems.

Daniel Rosenband, hardware engineer in self-driving cars division at Google, spelled that out in a keynote speech this week at the Hot Chips chip conference in Cupertino, Calif. The talk was one of many that showed that the frontier for sophisticated semiconductors — the building blocks of all things electronic — is no longer being driven by PCs… Continue reading

Google’s Demis Hassabis – misuse of artificial intelligence ‘could do harm’
It is a technology so powerful that – on a distant day well into the future – it could mean computers that are able to advise on the best way to treat patients, tackle climate change or feed the poor. With such potential power, comes huge responsibility.

cloud computing Aliyun, the cloud computing unit of Alibaba Group, is launching an artificial intelligence platform that it claims is the first in China. Called DT PAI, the service combines algorithms used by Alibaba with machine and deep learning techniques and presents them in a simple drag-and-drop interface. Aliyun says developers can use DT PAI to predict user behavior without having to write new code. Read More

Two artificial intelligence faces facing one another. Language is a distinctly human trait. Or is it? A new wave of consumer-focused startups are now developing artificial intelligence programs that can mimic, adapt and interpret the complex semantic patterns that were previously unrecognizable to logical, mathematically driven machines.
